He Felt He Deserved Our Inheritance Because He “Put Up With” Us — Then We Found What He Did

Grief is already the hardest thing. But some people choose that exact moment to show their true face — and what these two sisters discovered in their late mother’s estate paperwork left them completely stunned.

The Original Poster (OP) shared her story on Reddit, explaining how she and her sister lost their mother while both were still in their early twenties. Their biological father was absent, leaving the two sisters essentially on their own.

Their mother had been married to a man — let’s call him Richard — whom both daughters strongly disliked from childhood. They described him as manipulative, inappropriate, and openly creepy. Despite their discomfort, they kept quiet for years to maintain peace and stay close to their mom.

When their mother passed away in her late 40s, she left behind a will. Richard was named executor of the estate and was allowed to continue living in her home for the rest of his life. Ownership of the property, however, was intended to eventually pass to the daughters — and all financial assets were meant to go directly to them.

“The will was clear. The money was ours. But he had other plans.”

Here’s where things take a dramatic turn. The OP happened to work in the same office building where her mother’s estate was being legally processed. While reviewing paperwork one day, she noticed something deeply suspicious — Richard had quietly listed his own personal bank account as the payee for a transfer worth roughly half a million in local currency. Money that was supposed to go to her and her sister.

The sisters acted immediately. They stopped the transfer before it could go through, cut off all contact with Richard, and began legal proceedings to have him removed as executor of the estate.

When confronted, Richard didn’t apologize or deny it. Instead, he claimed he was entitled to the money — because he had “put up with” the family for all those years. Both daughters were horrified, but refused to back down.

After a series of legal battles and repeated meetings, the sisters won. Richard was forced to move out of the home and surrender his role as executor. He ultimately accepted a smaller, agreed payout to walk away — and disappeared from their lives for good.

The OP closed her post with a simple but powerful line: she hopes he is now lonely, and she doubts karma will ever truly fix a man like him.

The internet was overwhelmingly on the sisters’ side. People were shocked by the audacity of someone using grief as a cover for theft — and by the sheer nerve of his justification.
